Hi! I’m Clare Oparo. I was raised in Mombasa, Kenya and now live in Kampala, Uganda. I’m the blogger behind Marco Bash – A Skin Care Blog in Africa. I’m neither a doctor nor an esthetician – the closest medical degree I have would probably be awarded for watching medical dramas. I’m an African woman trying to protect her normal to dry, acne and eczema prone skin from the heat of the sun and the dust of the hills. This means I do a lot of research… asking a lot of questions and trying a lot of products – even creating some of my own!

On any given day, after a thorough skin care routine that involves cleansing, exfoliation, moisturizing, sun protection and a partridge in a pear tree; I seek out beauty trends, peer-reviewed studies on skincare ingredients and enjoy having conversations with dermatologists, cosmetic chemists, and estheticians.

It would be safe to say I love beauty and skin care. I created this blog for the smart, confident African woman who is frustrated with the lack of clear explanations on the science behind beauty; wants to learn about beauty trends, techniques, products, and innovations. That’s right, I created it for you!
