Three Home Remedies for Puffy Eyes

wolfandmoroko home remedies for puffy eyes

We have all experienced it at certain points in our life; a late night cry or work or party session that leaves you with swollen puffy eyes the next day that alerts everyone to your questionable life decisions.

Or maybe you make excellent life decisions but suffer from allergies, water retention or consume excess sodium and therefore have swollen puffy eyes that make everyone around think you make questionable life decisions.

Well, the good news is that the temporary swelling can be brought down with these home remedies in 10 minutes or less.

Frozen peas

Apply a bag of frozen peas, wrapped in a clean cloth under the eyes for 10 minutes. The frozen peas will settle and mold to the eye area, bringing down the swelling.

I would advise wrapping the peas in a clean cloth first because applying anything frozen directly onto your skin e.g. spoons, ice cubes can damage skin.

Cool tea bags

Dip caffeinated tea bags in cold water and place them onto your closed eyelids for three to four minutes. The caffeine in the tea bags will temporarily constrict the swollen blood vessels and reduce the puffiness. The tannic acid in the tea may also temporarily tighten the skin.

When it comes to tea bags however, dermatologists suggest not using Earl Grey tea. Earl Grey has oil of bergamot, an essential oil which may cause the redness and itching of contact dermatitis.

Cool cucumber slices

Slice some cucumbers, place the slices in the freezer for a few minutes then place them on your closed eyelids. The swelling may come down and guess what, after that you can quickly snack on the slices.

To reduce the chances of waking up with puffy eyes, make sure to wash your face before going to bed and elevate your head while you sleep.
